The working life of Tom Gilbert, Head of Estate Agency Services

From his experience in the Estate Agent industry to working alongside Goofy at Disneyland Paris, read more about Tom here.

When did you join the business?

I joined the business in April 2019.

What were your previous job roles?

I spent 16 years at LSL Property Services where I held a number of key senior roles. These included a position of Senior Branch Manager of a flagship Reeds Rains office as well as Operations Manager for the Conveyancing arm of the group. Therefore, I have a very balanced view of our industry.

What do you enjoy about working for Sort Group?

Firstly, the people. They made me feel very welcome from day one therefore it didn’t take long to understand why they hold the Investors in People accreditation. Secondly, the project in hand. I have embraced the opportunity to employ an entrepreneurial spirit whilst developing the new Sort Move brand. Alongside, the support structure is excellent, from the customer services team and marketing department through to the in-house IT team. My work ethos is to ‘get things done’ so the infrastructure at the Sort Group complements this well.

What is the most common question you get asked when at work?

“What would Estate Agents think of this?” or “How would they react to that?” I like giving positive and meaningful answers based on my experience as it often reminds me of the great things that I have achieved so far in my career.

What advice would you give someone who wants to work in the Estate Agent industry?

Start with a large organisation as they offer excellent training and career progression. You will know soon enough if the Estate Agency life is for you!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I am a level one football coach and my Under 9’s team, which includes my eldest son, have just embarked on their first proper league season. It gives me enormous satisfaction to see these young footballers play with a smile on their face…win, lose or draw!

Tell us something most people don’t know about you?

I spent a year working at Disneyland in Paris around my time at university. So I was actually proud to be part of a ‘Mickey Mouse operation’ and still class Goofy as a personal friend!

What’s your favourite food?

Now that’s a tough one as I’m a huge ‘foodie’. I would have to say that you can’t do much better than a perfectly cooked steak (which is blue, by the way).
